Egoism and empathy

When people speak, its apparent that they often do so out of the experience of their own life. They speak situated in their own experience of being themselves. The thing with this sort of behaviour is that it does not encompass the world of other people. It does not encompass the life of other people so well. In fact to encompass the life of other people means not to be situated in the experience of once own life. People hwo mostly speak this way are often even unaware of the fact that they are doing so. It is as if they assume other people are themselves, which of course they are not. People who constantly behave this way are not the sort of people whom i never come to know as friends.

Controary to that is empathy. To assume the position of someone else when speaking is to be empatic. Its not possible to be empatic and egoistic at the same time, but most people are one of those things sometimes and sometimes the other. But like i said, people who are constantly egoistic is not people whom i think is possible to have as friends. Perhaps they havent understood, or perhaps at least not yet. In some cases they do understand empathy, they just dont use it.
